Running for three days, from June 7th to 9th, Purvaai’s ‘Home Décor Showcase’ at Craft Central, a gallery in the quirky and artsy Clerkenwell in central London, offers visitors the opportunity to shop Purvaai’s extensive collection of unique, handcrafted home linen, late into the evening each day.
On the evening of June 7, which is the first day of its Home Décor Showcase, Purvaai will host a Champagne Reception to felicitate participants of the Textile Design Competition, as well as the awards ceremony where the winner and the first runner up will be announced and presented with their prize cheques. This reception requires an invitation, which can be obtained by sending an RSVP to the email address below on or before June 5th.
Purvaai’s ‘Textile Design Competition 2012’ for students and recent graduates ran from early March to the end of April. Applicants were required to design either a range of table linen including runner(s), napkin(s) and table cloth(s) OR to design decorative cushion cover(s) and throw(s) based on the theme “Reminiscing the Raj”.
One of the goals of the competition was to provide students and recent graduates of design programs the opportunity to showcase their talent in front of industry stakeholders. The judges’ panel was, therefore, carefully put together and included textile designers, a celebrated interiors journalist, a stylist and decorator, a buyer and proprietor of a well-known London home décor store and an academic.
Purvaai, which means ‘Winds from the East’ was founded to explore and reflect the diversity of ancient Indian art and craft and its influences on modern home décor. Its unique products largely use locally sourced natural fabrics, handcrafted textiles and traditional embroidery techniques.
