St. Louis Altenheim Announces $2 Million Renovation of Nursing Care Center

May 31, 2012 - PRLog -- The St. Louis Altenheim recently announced that it is undergoing a $2 million renovation, with anticipated completion and a grand opening in September. The Altenheim is a one-of-a-kind freestanding, non-profit senior living residence on the historic bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri.

Currently at 80 percent occupancy, the senior living residence is renovating two floors of its six-story tower. Once completed, the new nursing care center will offer 40 rooms, 20 on each floor. In total, the project will provide 34 private rooms and six semi-private rooms. The handicap accessible rooms will be furnished with private bathrooms and showers, and the semi-private rooms offer double occupancy for couples.

“At the St. Louis Altenheim, residents can expect to be treated with dignity and compassion in a comfortable, caring atmosphere with a dedicated and understanding staff,” said Kathy Clark, Altenheim administrator. “In recent years, we’ve witnessed a high demand for private rooms. The new space will further our commitment to our residents’ needs and requests.”

The Altenheim has hired architectural firm Grubbs and Associates and general contractor Altman-Charter. Both companies have extensive backgrounds in retirement community renovation and construction.

Open in 1901, the Altenheim offers residents a full-range of services, from independent living to supportive care to nursing care.  Residents can remain within the Altenheim family even as their needs change, without compromise to their care and comfort.  A 24-hour trained, professional staff, emergency response system in every resident room, licensed nurses, continuous health evaluations, on-site medical consulting and medication management provide residents with stability and comfort outlined in the Altenheim mission.

Decorated as an elegant home with three large living room areas and fireplaces, expansive windows, views of nature and rich vibrant colors, residents enjoy restaurant-style dining, scheduled transportation, and a full calendar of social, spiritual, educational and recreational programs.  Room fees are based on level of care, and include three meals per day, assistance with prescription medications, housekeeping services, laundry services, local excursions, on-site entertainment and seasonal parties.
