Follow on Google News | Trolley Drivers Live Longer Than Bus DriversBus Drivers are twice as likely to die of a heart attack than trolley drivers. Standing at work is proven to have health benefits.
By: Desktop Elevator Why is prolonged sitting so dangerous? Dr. Marc Hamilton at the Pennington Research Center suspects it has to do with an enzyme called lipoprotein lipase (LDL) This breaks down fat in the bloodstream and turns it into energy. In a study on rats, Dr. Hamilton found that standing rats have 10 times more of LPL running through their bodies than laying rats and when the rats leave their feet their LPL plummet. He feels the same thing happens in humans. So are you still sitting? A March 30, 2012 article in Men's Health, entitled "The Most Dangerous Thing You'll Do All Day" states that sitting all day will: 1. Screw up your posture because muscles begin to set when you are in one position to long. So if you are hunched over a keyboard all day, this will eventually will become your normal posture. 2. It makes you fatter. You burn fewer calories when sitting plus you largest muscle group, the glutes, aka, your butt become lazy and quit firing. This according to Bill Hartman, a physical therapist. 3. It causes lower back pain. Your pelvis is pushed forward putting stress on the spine which protrudes your belly. So what is the solution? Ask your Human Resource Department for a standing desk. The Desktop Elevator is a very practical adjustable height desk. This sit to stand desk fits onto your already existing desk so there is no need to transfer desk drawer contents into stand alone file cabinets. Sit and stand so you don't become like the bus drivers. Visit http://desktopelevator.com for more details and to order the Desktop Elevator. End
