72 Hr Kits – Does Everyone Need One?

A 72 Hr Kit, also known as a “grab and go bag’ or a “bug out bag” contains the bare essentials you need to get by for 2-3 days.

May 31, 2012 - PRLog -- Everyone should have one to grab on their way out the door in an emergency such as evacuating due to a fire, chemical spill, or gas leak.  Some people even keep one in their car and at work.

Your 72Hr Kit should include 2 changes of clothing, water, high energy foods, basic first aid supplies, and copies of critical personal information such as insurance policies, medical records, etc.  Your prescription medications should either be in the kit (be sure to rotate them) or in a weekly pill box you can grab and add to your kit as you leave.

If each family member has a 72 Hr Kit, you can evacuate quickly in an emergency with the confidence that you have everything you need to get by until you can return home.  Once you leave your home in an evacuation you will not be allowed back until the emergency is over.  If it is not in your 72 Hr Kit, you will have to do without it until you can return home.

Everyone in your family needs a 72 Hr Kit.  If you have baby, their kit will need diapers, formula, baby food, etc.  For toddlers be sure to include a small favorite toy and simple things to keep then entertained such as a coloring book and crayons.  If you have family pets, pack a bag for them also with food, license and vaccination paperwork, and toys.

Start preparing your 72 Hr Kit today.  You can purchase pre-made kits from many sources on-line or purchase a sturdy backpack and assemble your own.  At Iwillgetready.com we have the checklists and all the information you need to assemble your own 72 Hr Kit with links to suppliers of items you may need to purchase.  We also have links to suppliers of 72 Hr Kits if you prefer to purchase one.
