May 30, 2012 - PRLog -- A panel of judges evaluated Croda’s sustainability nomination against criteria such as supply chain innovation, responsible sourcing and consumer impact when deciding on the winner.

The nomination recognises Croda’s strong commitment to the industry hot-topic of fish oil sustainability. At Vitafoods 2011, Croda was the first omega 3 ingredients supplier to announce that it would take steps towards achieving the IFFO Responsible Supply (IFFO-RS) certification. In making the decision, Croda reviewed a number of accreditations linked to sustainability and responsible sourcing and the IFFO-RS certification was by far the most rigorous in its approach, demanding a thorough review of Croda’s entire supply chain and production facilities

In the last year, Croda has made great progress against the standard, with 70% of its fisheries having been independently reviewed by an ISO-65 compliant auditor. In October 2011, auditors also visited the Croda omega 3 manufacturing site in Leek, UK. This audit reviewed the manufacturing processes used to validate that the purity, safety and integrity of the fish oil is maintained through production. Croda met the standard and was certified as a Responsible Supplier of omega 3 ingredients.

Rob Walthall, Site Director of the Croda’s GMP accredited omega 3 manufacturing site in Leek, was enthusiastic to receive the award, “Corporate Social Responsibility is of key importance to Croda and Croda recognises the value that its customers, and indeed consumers, place on the responsible fishing of marine omega 3 oils. It is great to have our recent IFFO-RS milestones recognised and we look forward to working with our remaining supply chain partners to announce the full accreditation shortly.”

Croda aims to have the IFFO-RS accreditation for its whole supply chain, from the fishery to the fish oil refiner, by early 2013. This will then enable Croda’s customers, both encapsulator’s and brand owner’s, the option of getting an independent audit so that they can claim IFFO-RS across their entire supply chain also.

The NBT awards were held on Wednesday 23rd May in Geneva.
