Follow on Google News | Fine Art Carolina presents REFLECTIONS. works in glass and steel by Wendy Gellert and Pringle TeetorShow opening Friday, June 1, at Fine Art Carolina, 116 W. Clay St, Mebane, NC, phone 919-455-5965. Artist talks, live music and light refreshments, 7 - 9pm. Show on display through June 23.
Gellert delights in combining "common" materials in an uncommon way--a process that gets her creative juices flowing. Of the pieces in this show, she says, "My recent work combining glass and metal has produced exciting results. Each material has its own inherent beauty. Their reflective and refractive properties make light appear to dance across each surface. I continue to experiment with capturing the beauty of that phenomenon in my work". Pringle started as a potter and photographer, but admits, "The first time I tried molten glass I knew I was hooked. The combinations of color, light, shape, and composition provide endless outlets for the creative soul". Many of Teetor's blown glass works exhibit one color in reflected light, but an entirely different hue in transmitted light. Various metals and metal salts used according to ancient recipes give color to the glass. "Glassblowing combines art with science. I am a beginner. I will always be learning," she says. End
