Follow on Google News | Charlotte Roller Girls to Battle New River Valley Roller Girls and Lowcountry High Rollers on June 9On Saturday, June 9, the Charlotte Roller Girls, Charlotte’s most established roller derby league and only official Women’s Flat Track Derby Association member in Charlotte, will be hosting their third home doubleheader of the season.
Although we take care to plan our season well in advance so our fans know exactly who we are playing when, sometimes plans change. The B Dazzlers will not be playing The New River Valley Roller Girls B Team as originally scheduled, but instead will take on a familiar, and formidable, opponent: the Lowcountry Highrollers Bruisin’ Betties. Due to the team change for the B Dazzlers, the All-Stars will be playing first on the day, and the B Dazzlers will start their bout at 7:30pm to finish off the double header. In the first bout, starting at 6pm at Grady Cole Center, the Charlotte All-Stars will be facing the New River Valley Roller Girls from Virginia. The last time these two teams met was in 2008 when Charlotte won 124-42. The All-Stars are coming off a win against Little City from the previous home bout on May 5 and are eager to keep a winning streak on their home turf. The Charlotte B Dazzlers will be meeting a regular opponent on the track, the Lowcountry Highrollers Bruisin’ Betties. The B Dazzlers have already faced the Betties earlier in the year with a loss to them in February, so this is their chance to even the score! These two teams have a long history with the B Dazzlers taking both wins during the 2011 season. The national anthem will be performed by Charlotte skater, MzBehavin’ Mama. Half time entertainment will be provided by the Jill Dineen Band. With the season half way through, the Charlotte Roller Girls are eager to showcase some new strategies and giving their loyal fans a night of really great derby action. Later this year, the Charlotte Roller Girls will be hosting the first International roller derby event in Charlotte against the Cardiff Collective Roller Girls from Wales. The Charlotte Roller Girls are dedicated to developing the sport of roller derby in Charlotte through high-level bouts in both a national and international arena. Fans can purchase single bout tickets in advance online at www.charlotterollergirls.com/ The Grady Cole Center is located at 310 N. Kings Drive. Access to the official after party event is included with the purchase of every adult ticket. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: In our effort to fulfill our mission to be a responsible and active member of the Charlotte community, we will have informational booths for Spay and Neuter Charlotte and Carolina Blood Bank, who will be signing up volunteers to donate blood at our next home bout in July.
