Pandit Salil Bhatt in Jaipur
Pandit Salil Bhatt performed "Karun Ras" on his Satvik Veena in Jaipur on Monday, May 28, 2012. He dedicated the program to save girl child. The program was organized by Bal Gandharva Sangeet Shodh Sansthan and Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur. Pandit Salil Bhatt played Raga "a kind of Kauns". Salil Bhatt discovered this Raga. First he performed Alap and then he elaborated the Raga. Then he performed the Raga at different speeds i.e., delayed, medium and fast speed. Pandit Ramkumar Mishra performed excellent on Tabla in company of Pandit Salil Bhatt. The final performance was a revised version of "A meeting by the river". In this performance Satvik Bhatt (son of Pandit Salil Bhatt) gave company on keyboard and Mahendra Shankar Dangi gave company on Tabla.
Salil Bhatt is son of Grammy Award winner Slide Player Padmashree Pandit Vishwamohan Bhatt. Salil Bhatt is Indian Slide Guitar player. He invented Satvik Veena. Satvik Veena is a hybrid Guitar like Mohan Veena but with all-wodden version including tail piece and tuning pegs for strings. First two fingers of right hand are used to stike the chords to play Satvik Veena. This technique gives fast and brisk striking of wires. Satvik Veena player has to use his left hand to slide on chords. A steel rod or a slide is used on left hand.
Salil Bhatt is creator of Satvik Veena and is nominated for Canada's topmost music honour the "JUNO AWARD" (Juno Award is also considered as the CANADIAN GRAMMY Award) for his international music album SLIDE TO FREEDOM-2 in Best World Music Album category.
