“To our customers this means that we will mitigate their e-waste disposal risks by meeting the highest industry recycling and environmental standards and will continuously be audited to ensure compliance” according to Jim Cleveland, President and CEO.
“We will continually work directly with corporations, state and local agencies, as well as the residential sector offering environmentally responsible solutions for the handling and recycling of computers and electronics.”
Cleveland explained that being an R2 Certified Electronics Recycler involves heightened compliance in data security and environmental practices and procedures. Data security ensures that all R2 certified recyclers are required to sanitize, purge or destroy data on all hard drives and data storage devices. Compliant environmental practices require downstream due diligence on all vendors handling these materials to ensure materials are handled properly throughout the chain of custody. It also prohibits the export of equipment and components containing materials to developing countries unless the transaction is legal under both the export and import countries’ laws and the receiving facility meets the criteria of an appropriate downstream vendor.*
Adherence to ISO 14001:2004 standards helps organizations minimize how their operations negatively affect the environment and comply with all applicable environmental legal requirements.
