L.A. Animal Rescue’s Former Foster Puppies Save the Day!

May 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Jennifer had adopted Luna and Astro from L.A. Animal Rescue after browsing in a pet store. She declined to patronize the pet store, as she suspected its puppies may have come from unsavory places. Consequently, she searched online, and the two puppies’ pictures serendipitously appeared under her specifications.

Jennifer had only mothered the puppies for a little over two weeks when, on May 18th at 6:30 P.M., Luna was frantically barking at the gas meter on the side of the house. Lun was described as being in an aggressive stance, with her ears reared back, hackles raised, and crouching in front of the meter. Jennifer at first affectionately dismissed Luna as being a silly little pup, but on closer inspection, discovered the gas coupling had a cracked ring and corrosion.

She proceeded to call the gas company, who made her situation a priority. The technician shut off the gas after noticing the regulator flange was leaking. He found leaks inside the house as well. A few days later, the gas plumbers were still at her house, finding more leaks and repairing them. The gas company informed Jennifer the regulator would not be replaced and the gas would not be turned on until her house was cleared of any related hazard.

Jennifer credits L.A. Animal Rescue for connecting her with Luna and Astro, and encouraging her to adopt a rescue animal instead of buying from a breeder or pet store. Luna and Astro were originally found by a friend of LAAR’s, abandoned on the sidewalk along with two other newborn puppies of the same litter. They were motherless and needing immediate care. Su Roos was contacted, and she immediately took custody of three puppies, as the fourth had died from the abandonment and neglect. One puppy was adopted immediately; Luna and Astro were adopted thereafter by Jennifer, who thankfully decided to take both of them home together.

Jennifer believes kismet brought the three of them together, and this belief was underscored by the solar eclipse occurring on the same day as Luna’s fateful discovery of the damaged gas line. Luna and Astro, apparently, were aptly named!

LAAR’s motto is, “Adopt, the life you save could be your own.” The organization is most proud that two of its graduates made this motto a literal fact.  This non-profit outfit survives through donations and public support. The donations are used to maintain over 30 animals, spay and neuter dogs and cats, and to pull animals from shelters before they are euthanized. The aforementioned duties are not the least of what LAAR does, but the organization can only do as much as it can afford to financially.
