May 28, 2012 - PRLog -- If you don't like drinking plain water, there are plenty of options, and one of the newest is Mio Liquid Water Enhancer. Members of a Consumer Panel have been drinking the Peach Tea, but other flavors are also available.
Housed in a small dispenser, the colorful liquid is easy to add to a bottle or glass. One squeeze, about 1/2 teaspoon, is recommended for eight ounces of water, but the amount can be adjusted according to taste.
"The Mio tastes very similar to Crystal Light but has a more natural peach flavor," said one business owner, who prefers her water plain but for a change, sometimes adds Crystal Light.
There are several things she liked about Mio including the fact that it's portable, easy to use and has no calories. On the negative side, she pointed to all the additives in the liquid.
She also had a hard time getting just the right amount in her drink. "I needed two squeezes to get the full peach flavor, but it was too sweet, and when I added one squeeze, it was too weak."
One of the Panel members agreed that finding the right amount of the enhancer took a little bit of experimentation.
"One-half teaspoon was way too strong. I just kept adjusting and adding water until I got it right," he said. "I'm not much of a flavored tea person, but I microwaved it and found it very enjoyable as hot tea."
He suggests using the mixture to make a sparkling water spritzer, a quick Bellini or a champagne aperitif.
A Nursing student , who often flavors her water with Crystal Light or Lipton instant tea, enjoyed the Mio, which she said has just enough peach flavor but thought it was too expensive.
"My kids loved it. but I wouldn't buy it again. It's too pricey. I needed at least two squeezes, and my daughters liked three or four," she said.
A Paraprofessional said the Mio not only had a lot of sweet peachy flavor, it also colored the water so that it looked like like tea. "It's good in Sprite or 7-Up and would be good for kindergarten teachers who don't want to spend a lot of money on juice boxes for their students."
"It's basically Kool-Aid," said Naval retiree Jeff Dowell, who said when he wants to hydrate he drinks plain water.
"We need to think about all the chemicals and additives in food. You can make a gallon of iced tea for about 10 cents. Adding chemicals to water isn't a trend I'd get into," he said.
One-half teaspoon of Mio contains no calories, fat, sodium or sugars.
