Georgian Folk Dance and Music in Jaipur

Jaipur : Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur organized a cultural program in Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur on Sunday, May 27, 2012. A Georgian group "Chveneburebi" performed in the cultural program. The team of Georgia spellbound the Jaipur audience with wonderful Georgian folk dances and music performances.

"We are Folk Group from Georgia, we want to introduce our Traditional Folk music to the World. Also we want to invite groups from all the countries to our Georgia", said Solomon, the group leader of "Chveneburebi" folk group of Georgia.

Folk Group “Chveneburebi” consists of 11 members. Each of them is from different parts of Georgia that helps them to keep authentic tradition and manner of singing. Except singing, each member of the group can dance and play Georgian folk instruments. Each of them can sing all three voices and is distinguished by the special voice tembre. Therefore, “Chveneburebi” has maintained the real, authentic character and manner of performance.

“Chveneburebi” regularly arranges folk expeditions in regions of Georgia. They work on discovering old folk songs, their different variants and introducing them to the society. They work also on archive records of Georgian folk songs. "Chveneburebi" is also successfully travelling abroad. Since the foundation till today members of the group have performed in different countries of Europe and Asia.

The repertoire contains 2 concert programs: 1. Pure Georgian folk concert 2. Concert with ethnomusical compositions composed by the group (additionally including the standard drum, keyboard and bass guitar).

“Chveneburebi” folk group of Georgia started their performance in Jaipur with Church Chanting (a prayer). Then after, the group performed various folk songs and dances of Georgia including wedding dance, classical Georgian dance, Easter round dance, Comedy dance and Battle dance.

Georgian folk group made the Sunday evening memorable for Jaipur audience.
