By: Acupuncture Barcelona Ruth Westnidge “When I was first considering where to practice acupuncture Barcelona was top of my list. I had been working and/or studying in London for a long time and it felt like the right time to make the move. First of all I had a treatment room in Gracia, and gradually through friends I was introduced to Arge, which is in the St Gervasi-Gracia area. If you don’t know Barcelona well, they’re both lovely areas of the city. Arge is perfect because you can get there in less than a minute from the Muntaner FCG station, 3 stops from Placa Catalunya, There’s also a very calm, peaceful atmosphere, which is so important for an acupuncture clinic, plus there are a lot of great practitioners at centre, giving it really great energy.” Ruth trained with a majority Chinese staff team, at the University of Middlesex, London. The course was designed in collaboration with the University of TCM, Beijing, as a four year full time Bachelor of Science degree. Having studied acupuncture and Chinese herbs, she then went on to practice in London, whilst simultaneously studying the clinical module from the University of Westminster’ As well as being a Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncturist, Ruth is also an expert in ear acupuncture. This Microsystems approach is used throughout Europe, the USA and worldwide for a wide range of problems. It has gathered a reputation over the years for creating better sleep, better stress management; promoting calmness and enhanced focus; and helping with anxiety and addictions. Having used it in both private practice and the UK’s NHS, Ruth now offers it as a stand alone treatment or as part of a Traditional Chinese Medicine or Cosmetic acupuncture session. Her interest in Cosmetic work strangely enough began in a Chinese hospital, watching the practitioners there treat patients suffering from severe facial muscle flaccidity. Back in London, she completed dedicated training in techniques for improving the look of facial muscle tone, wrinkles and fine lines, uneven complexion and general glow. “The facial work really came about with an ‘aha’ moment in China. The ‘TCM doctors’ were doing some amazing work there and I could see that a lot could be done working with the face using only acupuncture. When you translate that into Cosmetic work, the possibilities are very interesting. The techniques I learnt in London don’t try to radically change the facial features in the way that surgery might and obviously there are no chemicals or drugs involved. There’s more of a lifting and softening aspect to it, lifting the Qi and softening tension, it’s a very natural, radiant look,” To find out more about Acupuncture Barcelona call +34 662 260 128 or visit http://www.tcm- End
