Free Horseracing For Students At Newton Abbot

Students to benefit from free access to Newton Abbot Racecourse

PRLog - May 25, 2012 - PLYMOUTH, U.K. -- College and university students are set to benefit from free entry this season to all horseracing fixtures at Newton Abbot Racecourse.

Following the success of its free entry policy for under 16s, and repeated enquiries from college and university students, the racecourse has extended the scheme so that all students can enjoy free entry to the racecourse this season.

The students’ promotion is open to all current students in colleges and universities throughout the country who produce a valid student ID card at the entrance.

Explaining the launch of the new student scheme, Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse, commented: “We’re delighted to extend our free entry promotion to post-16 students to maximise the number of people who can experience the excitement of a day at the races.”

“Once viewed as a sport for the older generations, it is vitally important for the future of the sport that we help introduce horseracing to the younger generations.”

“Furthermore, with increasing financial pressure on students due to higher university fees and a fall in part-time employment opportunities, the reduction in their disposable income means that few would be able to enjoy a trip to the races.”

“Looking at the number of equine-related university sports clubs and societies, there is clearly an interest in the sport. We hope that through launching this initiative, we can allow more young people to enjoy the sport live at the racecourse.”

One student who is looking forward to attending the races more often this season is 22 year old South Devon College student Rachel Billing. Rachel said: “I think it’s an excellent move by Newton Abbot to help encourage more young people to be interested in the sport.”

“My boyfriend has always been a huge fan of horseracing and took me along four years ago for the first time. Since then we try to go at least two or three times a year but the new student promotion means that we can enjoy a day out at the races more often.”

To claim their free tickets, students, including mature students, are required to produce a valid student ID or NUS card at the entrance gates on the day. The free entry for students offer will be available for all fixtures in 2012, providing the ticketholder with access to both the Course and Paddock Enclosures.

Newton Abbot Racecourse return on Wednesday 30th May with an afternoon fixture starting at 2pm.

Further information about the student offer, including the fixtures list, is available on the racecourse website at www.newtonabbotracing.com
