May 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Hound Comics, Inc., the only independently owned and operated comic book line available at Barnes and Noble, was recently featured in Worth Every Penny: Build a Business that Thrills Your Customers and Still Charge What You’re Worth, a New York Times Best Selling book by Sarah Petty and Erin Verbeck, MBAs and small business marketing specialists. This business book teaches small businesses how to be profitable without competing on price and features several “boutique” businesses, such as Hound Comics, as examples of the different ways to thrill customers so that price is no longer an issue.

Hound Comics is not your typical comic book publisher. Rather than publishing flimsy, small comic books as you would find in most comic book stores, Hound Comics prints on high-quality paper, and only prints a limited number of comics. While this costs the company considerably more to print between the magazine-grade paper and lower number of books printed, according to CEO William “Brimstone” Kucmierowski, it’s worth the risk.

“Brimstone told us that in order to compete, the company needed to create a reason to grab their comic book off the shelf amongst a sea of other choices,” says Petty, co-author of Worth Every Penny. “They are an independent company from other big players in the industry and produce on a smaller scale, so they needed to create something more interesting than their competitors.”

And for Hound Comics, the risk has paid off. Fans have responded to the unique take on comic books positively, noting that while the books are more expensive than others, the illustrations and story “pop off the page,” making the books worth every penny.

In the past year, the company has grown to now include a children’s division, celebrity food review division, an animated series, and several licensing deals, including a partnership with Eastsport, Inc. The company’s popularity continues to increase significantly both nationally and internationally, and over one million fans now visit their website, http://www.houndcomics.com each month.

Worth Every Penny: Build a Business that Thrills Your Customers and Still Charge What You’re Worth was released on April 24, 2012 and was announced as #4 in The New York Times Book Review Best Sellers Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous, Hardcover section on May 2 on May 13, 2012. The book was also listed #1 on the USA Today’s Money Best Sellers list and #2 on the Wall Street Journal Hardcover Business Best-Selling Book list for the week that ended April 29, 2012.
