Music City Distance Carnival to Feature Swiftwick Invitational Men’s Mile

May 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Swiftwick Socks, a leader in compression and footwear innovation, will be the exclusive sponsor of the marquee  Mile event at the Music City Distance Carnival. In its relatively short history, the meet has yielded fifteen sub-4 minute miles and the fastest mile ever seen in the state of Tennessee. The meet will be held June 2nd at the Vanderbilt Track Complex on Natchez Trace in Nashville, TN. The meet will begin at 6:40 PM and the invitational races will begin at 7:45 PM.

The Swiftwick Men’s  and Women’s Invitational Miles will have also have an en route timing camera for athletes seeking Olympic/Olympic trials qualification in the 1500m.

Meet Director, Dave Milner, states that he already has commitments from 9 athletes who have sub-4:00 personal bests, including 40-year-old Anthony Whiteman who, like Milner, is an Englishman.  Whiteman, an Olympian who has a lifetime best of 3:51.90 set back in 1998, is seeking to be the first masters (over 40) runner to ever run a sub-4:00 mile outdoors. To date, only one over-40 runner, legendary Irish miler, Eammon Coghlan, has ever gone sub-4 and that was indoors in 1994. “To me, this is the story of the meet, a guy almost old enough to be some of these young lads’ father, still going at it at age 40. I hope the other athletes and the spectators are as inspired by Anthony’s efforts as I am. I’m very glad Swiftwick is helping shine the light on what promises to be a great night of racing with an exciting finale.”

For the Music City Distance Carnival, Swiftwick Socks will be officially debuting their newest line of compression socks, the PULSE.
