May 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Castle Rock, CO — With negotiations between the Douglas County School District and the Douglas County Federation of Teachers nearing a boiling point, today a grassroots group of parents announced a new campaign to call on the school district to finish negotiations swiftly and see through its reform efforts.

Parent Led Reform, a grassroots group of parents, teachers, and other community members launched the campaign to “Stand with Dougco Kids” in an effort to engage the greater Douglas County community and ask it to stand up for our exceptional teachers and kids.

“As a parent with three children in the Douglas County School District, I am extremely proud of our teachers and school system’s achievements,” said Karin Piper, Executive Director of Parent Led Reform. “That’s why I’m so frustrated that the teachers union and its community groups are trying to derail the reforms our school district needs to succeed in the 21st century.”

Parent Led Reform believes that great schools and great teachers are integral to the success of our children. At the same time, we cannot afford to let up on efforts to improve our schools and hold on to our most valuable asset, Douglas County school’s skilled teachers. It is imperative the school board be able to reward highly performing teachers with performance pay.

“Union negotiations don’t need to be acrimonious, nor drawn out,” continued Piper. “We wanted negotiations public to discourage both sides from cutting a deal to the detriment of our childrens’ education. Now, it seems that the union is turning these negotiations into a three ring circus and playing politics with our kids’ future.”

“As parents, we want our teachers to know that we believe they should be rewarded for their many accomplishments—not least of which is the districts’ top ranking of schools in the state. For many of us, the teachers and schools are the reason we live in Douglas County. We cannot let outside groups drive a wedge between us. Our teachers are Douglas County greatest strength.”

Parent Led Reform is a grassroots organization of Douglas County parents, teachers, and community members dedicated to promoting education reform efforts.
