May 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Twin Cities Community Hospital was honored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). HAIs, a leading cause of death in the United States, are infections that are acquired by about one in every 20 patients receiving medical treatment for other conditions.
Twin Cities Community Hospital was one of just 11 hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide to be recognized in Orlando during the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ (AACN) National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition. Award recipients were selected for demonstrating success in reducing and eliminating central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) for 25 months or longer and showing national leadership in sharing their evidence-based initiatives to help improve clinical practice.
“Twin Cities Community Hospital is proud to be the only hospital to be awarded two honors for reducing hospital-associated infections. The dedication of our staff and physicians in making Twin Cities a safe environment of care is outstanding,” said Twin Cities Director of Business Development Jason Chang. “Our success in this effort is due to the skilled and dedicated team of healthcare professionals at Twin Cities who care for our patients every day.”
Dr. Don Wright, deputy assistant secretary for health, said that the country has seen rapid progress in reducing rates of several infections since 2009, especially in intensive care settings. Looking forward, the AACN’s Director of Communications and Strategic Alliances Ramón Lavandero, RN, MA, MSN, FAAN, noted that, “Through sharing what works, by the end of 2013 we hope to decrease preventable HAIs by 40 percent and save upward of 60,000 lives.” Both representatives credited progress to the leadership, dedication and hard work of hospital teams like Twin Cities Community Hospital and those honored through the HHS-CCSC awards program.
