Puryear describes her portfolio as “[a reflection of] the partnership between [herself] and the Earth.” She says, “[My paintings] are my way of cooperating with nature, honoring its feminine essence, and sharing it with others. My intention is to make art that people love, based on the art inherent in nature.”
Christine Cote, editor of Still Point Arts Quarterly, says Puryear is an inspiration. “Her art invites people to experience and appreciate nature in an artful form. Her work is organic and explores color and texture while ultimately drawing people into the natural elements of the Earth.”
Charla Puryear, currently a professor of Drawing and Painting at Columbia College Hollywood, is a 1980 graduate of Brown University and a 1987 graduate of Pratt Institute’s master’s program.
Still Point Arts Quarterly is available for purchase at Barnes & Noble and other select bookstores throughout the US and Canada.
