May 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Logan, OH USA -- Long before Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest, the neighborhood beauty salon or barbershop was the place to catch up on gossip, hear the latest news or share vacation ideas.  The Hocking Hills Tourism Association (HHTA) is now tapping that age-old phenomenon, the original social media outlet.  The goal is to spread the word about the Hocking Hills as the ideal destination where travelers can experience a pampering escape, a relaxing natural getaway or a true outdoor adventure.

The HHTA is offering a Hocking Hills getaway for one lucky stylist from each of 10 Columbus-area salons, including: The Cachet, Scioto Hair Artists Group (SHAG), Cut Color Style Studio and seven others.  The salons will invite customers to vote for their favorite stylist via old-fashioned paper ballots.  Then, much like Facebook's "Like" button, the stylist who garners the most votes at each salon will receive a complimentary Hocking Hills Getaway, including:
•   Overnight accommodations for two in a Hocking Hills cabin (Sun.-Thurs.)
•   One 50-minute in-cabin pampering massage
•   A bottle of wine
•   A box of chocolates

"We hope this contest will spark lively chatter among salon guests and their stylists," said Hocking Hills Tourism Association Executive Director Karen Raymore, who conceived of the novel promotion.  "Word of mouth is often the #1 inspiration for people when choosing a vacation getaway, so we wanted a fun way to inspire conversation about the Hocking Hills.  What better spot for this to take place than the stylist's chair at a beauty salon, ala Steel Magnolias?"

Despite the contest's retro and unplugged appeal, competing stylists are urged to lobby for votes and to use newer forms of social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) to encourage votes in their favor.

Located 40 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio, Hocking Hills offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences that make every day feel like Saturday, with plenty of Admission: FREE activities. The region boasts a wide variety of affordable lodging, from camping, cabins and cottages to hotels and inns.  In addition to hiking trails, parks and forests, the Hocking Hills is the Canopy Tour Capital of the Midwest, with 50 ziplines being offered via three distinct guide services.  Unique gift and antique shops, canoeing, horseback riding, golf, spas and more add to the allure of the Hocking Hills as the perfect place to unplug.
