Hickey also recently agreed to serve on the Eleventh Circuit Committee on Professionalism. This Committee serves to provide guidance to attorneys in matters of professionalism and ultimately to elevate the level of practice within the legal community.
Hickey is a graduate of Florida State University (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and of Duke Law School. He is Board Certified as a Civil Trial Lawyer by The Florida Bar and by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Hickey is Past President of the Dade County Bar Association and currently serves on The Florida Bar Board of Governors. He is rated A/V by Martindale Hubbell and has been named by his peers to the “Legal Elite” in the area of aviation, admiralty, and maritime by Florida Trend magazine, as a Top Lawyer by the South Florida Legal Guide, and as a “Super Lawyer” by Superlawyer.com.
For the first part of his career, Hickey was a defense lawyer for cruise lines, railroads, and insurance companies. For the past 15 years, Hickey has been on the other side, representing people in personal injury and wrongful death cases in the areas of cruise line claims (admiralty and maritime), products liability, and premises liability. He also practices complex commercial litigation. Hickey has won many multi-million dollar jury verdicts.
