Follow on Google News | Protecta-Line Ensures Safe Water’s in Store at Tesco SiteProtecta-Line PE barrier pipe from GPS PE Pipe Systems has been used for both the drinking water supply and the fire hydrant feed at Tesco’s new ‘carbon zero’ store in Cefn Mawr, Wrexham.
Construction of the store follows development of a new stadium - ‘The Rock’ - for one of Wales’s oldest football clubs, Cefn Druids AFC. The store is being built on the site of the team’s former Plaskynaston ground where George Best once played as part of the Manchester United youth team. The site was also once home to a bus depot and this, along with the prevalence of industrial sites and the mining industry in the vicinity, has led to the specification of Protecta-Line for the water infrastructure installation. Explains Paul Charlton, site manager for LX Engineering, the contractor responsible for laying the pipe: “Protecta- GPS provided 21 12-metre lengths of 160mm Protecta-Line in SDR 17 which were welded together by the contractor on site and laid in an open cut installation connecting to two separate mains for drinking water and fire hydrant supply.
