By: Bridges, LLC Now there is GenLinks – “Make Life Real”, a program to develop in Generation Y an understanding of work as what advances value for the employer, customers, themselves and community. It is four classes over the month of June 2012, for ages 14 through 25, at the beautiful Colorado Mesa University campus in Grand Junction, Colorado. Despite unprecedented technological and cultural sophistication, employers say Gen Yers lack some of the ‘soft’ skills that are necessary to move up the professional ladder like, manners, awareness of others, perseverance, humility, flexibility and commitment. One of the biggest reasons for this is lack of work experience. This is why Bridges has created a career experience for young people. GenLinks’ coach Tinker Barnett, prepares young Gen Y employee-candidates for Boomer workplaces they know very little about. With a few hours of teaching about their role in purposeful work, they will be prepared to give their best from day one. Here are the best reasons to take GenLinks "Make Life Real" classes: • Gen Y college graduates say that they wish they had known more about the workplace before they started their first job. GenLinks - "Make Life Real" classes teach you what to expect before you start work. • Baby Boomers and coworkers expect things from Gen Yers they don’t know much about - like company loyalty and work ethic. Students will learn about generations and how they bring different expectations to work. • Gen Yers will be needed as leaders in the near future and should begin to get ready now. Boomer workers, who have been our leaders, are leaving the workforce at about 10 million a year. There are not enough Gen X employees, ages 32 to 45, to take their place. Tinker says, “Our purpose in this set of classes is to create a working process for awakening potential in a way that generates within each student an understanding of our present way of working and the essentiality of working to have meaning and purpose so that business can evolve ways of working that generate value within the whole of community.” Make Life Real classes include: • Gen Y Survivor in a Boomer Workplace - Navigating the Unknown • Interpersonal Communications - Look'em in the Eye, Shake Their Hand • Customer Services Boot Camp – It’s Not About You This Time • Get Ready to Lead – On the Fast-track to Fill the Gap Registration is anytime, online at http://www.MakeLifeReal.com. Scholarships are available. These steps for preparing Gen Yers for the workplace are just part of a “connecting generations” The complete solution is outlined in Tinker’s white paper “Workplace Frustration: For media inquiries, to arrange for an interview or an expert quote, please contact Tinker at 970-245-5707, or tinker@bridgegen.net.
