Statement on the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act

Violence against women is morally repulsive and totally unacceptable.

May 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Violence against women is morally repulsive and totally unacceptable. For decades, the State of Washington persecuted those convicted of such crimes. Until 1994, it seemed like common sense that leaders on the local and state levels were the best ones to handle these types of cases. Women had nothing to gain and much to lose from the federal government replacing the working institutions of state government with expensive, unfeeling, and incompetent ones of its own.

Reauthorization of the Violence against Women Act ignores the fact that those in state and local government are better caretakers of these types of victims and better punishers of these types of criminals. The knee-jerk reaction of Rick Larsen to remove this issue from local control and to give more power to Washington DC reveals his mistrust of local citizens and law enforcement officials to take care of their own.

We can get used to Rick Larsen making such a big deal out of a non-issue as he ducks his appalling abandonment of our veterans and his miserable record on the economy.”
