Speakeasy Art presents "The Work of Christine Wagner"

PRLog (Press Release) - May 22, 2012 - In the past three years, Speakeasy Art Gallery has become known for showcasing the work of both international and local contemporary artists. In recent months, the gallery has changed it's location to 816 Main Street, just across the street from their previous space. The gallery has also modified it's exhibiting format. In an effort to keep the space consistently fresh, Speakeasy Art now holds opening receptions featuring new work on the first Friday of each month. Last month's exhibit, "2x2", marked the first show in it's new format and location. Participating artists were asked to submit works with the dimensions of 24"x24". The opening was a huge success and coincided with Boonton Main Street's annual Spring Art Walk.

One artist featured in the "2x2" exhibit was emerging New Jersey artist Christine Wagner. A collection of her works will be on display for the month of June at Speakeasy Art as the first solo show in the new space. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 6 to 9pm.  The exhibition will also be available for viewing during gallery hours (Thursday - Saturday 11am-5pm and by appointment) through June 24th. To coincide with Boonton Main Street's June first Friday "en plein air" event, Main on Canvas, Christine will paint live on site at Speakeasy Art on the night of the opening from 4-7pm .

“The Work of Christine Wagner” illustrates her minimalist aesthetic and modern point of view regarding the abstract.  Embracing negative space, focus on line and confident use of color are the embodiment of Wagner’s unique style.  Her media consists of gouache, ink, charcoal, marker, and pencil combined to create bold, vibrant works of art.

Wagner has a background in fashion design with a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.  She has been showing consistently in northern New Jersey for the past three years; most recently in Montclair, West Orange, Newark, and Morristown.  Wagner works as a freelance artist’s consultant and assistant and is also a co-founder and co-director of Guerilla Galleries.

Speakeasy Art is conveniently located off of Route 287 in Boonton, NJ.  The gallery is located in Boonton's flourishing art's district on the 800 block of Main Street.  Plenty of parking is available behind Speakeasy Art.
