To celebrate this historic occasion, Swansea’s Castle Square will be awash with the red, white and blue of the Union Jack when the city centre venue plays host to the Jubilee festivities.
And Swansea residents are now being invited to join in and bring a picnic, their friends and family, and make their way to Castle Square for the Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday 3 June.
The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project and aims to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch together in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
During the day, from 11am – 3pm, there will be live entertainment on stage and via Swansea’s London 2012 Live Site along with street entertainment including face painters and balloon modellers.
Tables can be reserved for this free event or people can just turn up on the day and find their own spot to sit and enjoy all the day has to offer. To reserve a table call the City and County of Swansea’s Special Events team on 01792 635428.
Frances Jenkins, Strategic Manager for Tourism, Marketing and Events, said, “The Big Jubilee Lunch promises to be a great day and is a fantastic way to bring communities together.”
“There are already many street parties planned to take place across the city and the Big Lunch in Castle Square provides another opportunity for people from all over Swansea to come together to enjoy lunch on this special occasion.”
“It’s got all the right ingredients for the perfect family Jubilee celebration with a full programme of entertainment and, fingers crossed, maybe even some sun.”
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration is just one event in a fantastic programme of free events and live screenings taking place at Swansea’s London 2012 Live Site throughout the summer.
