PRLog - May 21, 2012 - POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- (Pompano Beach, FL – May 21, 2012)  Floods are America’s number one natural disaster, and ninety percent of all natural disasters involve some sort of flooding. Make sure to tune in to “Designing Spaces” on Lifetime television on May 24 at 7:30 a.m. (ET/PT) as Jeanne M. Salvatore, a flood insurance expert with the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) joins the show to discuss how flood insurance can help protect homeowners from the financial effects of flooding.

During the segment, “Designing Spaces” travels to Nashville, a city that was severely impacted by a flood affecting hundreds of homes and businesses. Salvatore will help viewers understand how just a few inches of water can result in tens of thousands of dollars in damage to a home, and that homeowners insurance does not typically cover flooding.

Homeowners need to learn the facts about their flood risk. Even if a homeowner has never experienced a damaging flood that does not mean they are risk free. "Learning from other people's experience is very important, and we see after every disaster that people who took the time to get the right amount and type of insurance, including flood insurance, are in a much better place after the disaster," says Salvatore.

An insurance agent can present homeowners with their flood insurance policy options and make sure they choose the coverage that is right for them. For more information about flood risk and flood insurance, please visit the FloodSmart website at http://www.FloodSmart.gov.

“It was a real pleasure to have Jeanne Salvatore from the Insurance Information Institute on “Designing Spaces” to share this valuable information about flood insurance with our viewers so they can make important decisions on how to protect themselves from the financial effects of flooding,” says Lysa Liemer, Designing Spaces Executive VP of Programming and COO.
