Cornwall Asparagus Festival at the Penventon Park Hotel

The Penventon Park Hotel has announced that it will host a free one-day asparagus festival on Sunday 27th May to celebrate this fantastic seasonal ingredient, with a mixture of asparagus recipes, tasters, food stalls, and cookery demonstrations.

The Penventon Park Hotel in Redruth has announced that it will host a free one-day asparagus festival on Sunday 27th May to celebrate this fantastic seasonal ingredient.
With a mixture of asparagus recipes, tasters, food stalls, cookery demonstrations and an opportunity to meet Cornwall’s largest asparagus growers, John and Jenny Keeler from Tregassow Farm, the festival will proudly celebrate all that is great about Cornish asparagus.
Aaron Pascoe, General Manager at the Penventon Park Hotel, comments: “We’re really passionate about food and pride ourselves on sourcing good quality local ingredients.
“Visitors will be able to try asparagus, pick up hints, tips and learn new recipes which they can take away and try at home. The Cornwall Asparagus festival is all about celebrating our local producers and gives visitors the chance to find out more about what’s on their doorstep!”
The event will run from 11am – 4pm and promises a full programme of live cookery demonstrations from some of Cornwall’s top chefs, including: Nigel Tabb of Tabb’s in Truro, Arty Williams of The Cove in Falmouth, John Waterhouse, former head lecturer of catering at Cornwall College, and The Penventon Park’s own chef Joe Lado Devesa.
Arty Williams says: “Asparagus is one of the great Cornish ingredients worth waiting for.  The treats of early season asparagus are a sign that spring is with us and freshly picked asparagus is just fabulous, however you choose to cook it!”
Nigel Tabb adds: “I always look forward to the Cornish asparagus season; it’s a very special ingredient that I use as much as I can. The festival is a fantastic way to promote and celebrate asparagus and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”
In addition to cookery demonstrations there’ll be a range of fresh Cornish produce available at the festival food market, where visitors will be able to purchase fresh asparagus spears from the Keelers in addition to a whole host of ingredients from other local food producers.
In addition to snacks, refreshments and asparagus tasters from the bar, The Penventon Park Hotel will also be running a special asparagus menu throughout the weekend, where you can sample a variety of asparagus dishes. The menu will run from 7pm – 9.30pm on Friday 25th, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May (3-courses for £24.95) or you can book lunch at the festival from 12pm – 2pm on Sunday 27th May from just £10.95.
