“The Chamber is moving in a new direction which includes increased education and advocacy for Minority businesses in Northwest Louisiana and we want everyone to be a part of it,” says Tanita Baker, P.E., Chair of the Board. “The campaign will not only highlight new Minority businesses in our area but will validate our purpose and offerings to our membership. The number 5 is the number of harmony and balance so we felt that 55 new members was an ideal target goal.” Gilbert-Baker is Vice President of Civil Engineering with EJES, Inc. and has pledged her commitment to continuing the great work that outgoing Chairman Mr. Booker T. White began which includes enhancing and enriching the community and citizens through African-American Chamber membership and programming. SBAACC services include serving as a valuable business resource trough small business coaching and development, student educational scholarships, volunteer and mentoring opportunities, and fundraising initiatives.
A press conference will be held May 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m at the Multicultural Center of the South located at 520 Spring Street in downtown Shreveport to formally kick-off the campaign. Those who join the Chamber at the press conference will receive a $55 discount off their membership. Currently, there are more than 100 members in the Chamber governed by a board of 13.
