The 2012 Frederick Film Festival Features Live Music, Feature Films and International Short Films

May 20, 2012 - PRLog -- While many of the films selected for this year’s festival are noted on the F3’s website (www.FrederickFilmFest.com) the full line-up will be announced by the end of May once all the filmmakers have been notified.

This year’s selections include several acclaimed films which premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) earlier this year such as Tim Sutton’s beautiful “Pavillion”, Matt Ruskin’s crime drama “Booster”, and Avi Zev Weider’s future-looking documentary “Welcome to the Machine”.  The regional filmmaking community is represented as well by feature films such as West Virginia’s Edward Mensore’s thriller “The Deposition” and Maryland’s own Francis Abbey’s world premiere comedy “6 Nonsmokers.”

Compelling, acclaimed, and thought-provoking documentaries have always had a place at the F3 and this year is no exception. Selections this year include an examination of the lives of migrant farm women called “After I Pick the Fruit”, an inside look at shopping cart racing on the streets of North Vancouver entitled “Carts of Darkness”; and a look at Maryland record store owner Joe Lee and his involvement with the Washington area music scene entitled “Record Paradise: The Musical Life of Joe Lee.”

Of particular importance to Frederick, the film “Semper Fi: Always Faithful” will screen at the festival. The film tells the heart-rending story of Marine Corps Master Sgt. Jerry Ensminger, a devoted Marine for nearly 25 years. When his 9 year old daughter Janey died of a rare type of leukemia, his world collapsed and sent him on a long search for answers. His search for answers led to the shocking discovery of a Marine Corps cover-up of one of the largest water contamination incidents in US history. The film details Ensminger’s mission to pressure the Marine Corps to live up to their motto to the thousands of soldiers and their families exposed to toxic chemicals. His fight reveals a grave injustice at North Carolina's Camp Lejeune and a looming environmental crisis at military sites across the country. (Ensminger may be present at the screening, details are being finalized.)

Short films from all over the world are also featured at this year’s F3. The selection this year includes films from more than a dozen countries and in so many different genres it would be impossible to list them all. Some of the short films selected include Oscar nominees such as “Time Freak”, “The Wild Life”, and “Madame Tulti-Pulti.”  Other selections include a block of Inuit animated film, some of the most award winningest films from around the globe – “The Lost Town of Switez”, “Mutt”, and “55 Socks.” Local filmmakers are also represented with films like Jason Fraley’s “Liberty Road.”

The F3 has plenty in store for Frederick even before the festival begins. On June 2-3, the F3 along with the Maryland International Kids FilmFest will be showing kids films at the Delaplaine during the Festival of the Arts. In addition, the F3 hosts the music of The Galt Line at the First Saturday event in Downtown Frederick. The following weekend the F3’s main kickoff event on June 9 brings Deanna Bogart to the Delaplaine for an evening of short films, live music, and food and drink by Brewer’s Alley…tickets are still available at www.F3Tix.com and include all food and drinks.

On June 16 the F3 brings The Blair Witch Project director Eduardo Sanchez to town to for a late night showing the festival is calling “Ed Sanchez Presents…” Ed is bringing a new film he produced called “Midnight Son.” The following day, June 17, from 2pm to 4pm, Keith Chester’s short documentary “The Flow of Forsythe” which examines Frederick artist Charles Forsythe, will be screened at the Delaplaine. Chester and Forsythe will both be in attendance as well as an exhibit of Forsythe’s work.

Finally, the final F3 event before the festival includes a series of short films and a feature at Artomatic in DC, held in Crystal City, on Thursday, June 21. The F3 will be there from 7-10pm and will screen the SXSW world premiere feature “Pavilion” with guest director Tim Sutton.

The Frederick Film Festival –the F3 – is a result of a partnership between Frederick’s premiere performing arts venue, the Weinberg Center for the Arts, and Frederick’s film organization CinemArts, who have been bringing underscreened, independent, and foreign film to Frederick on a biweekly basis for nearly 7 years.

The purpose of the partnership is to provide an opportunity for a world-class film festival in Frederick and to promote a wide range of films. Films on the schedule include acclaimed foreign films, documentaries and independent films, most being shown for the first time in Frederick, some for the first time in the region, and some for the first time on the East Coast. The F3 also features works from Maryland fimmakers.
