Mr Green Stuff was the idea of owner, Todd Heness, a professional painter of 15 years. He completed a Green Painters sustainable painters course on the Gold Coast in May 2011. It was at this course he learnt about the dangers of VOCs - volatile organic compounds.
"That course was a real eye-opener. After all these years of professional painting I had no idea that VOCs were in the paint I was using day in and day out. I didn't even know what VOCs were. It was scary to think I'd been breathing in stuff that was making me sick."
After researching into alternatives and discovering a premium quality paint range that was completely NO-VOC, Mr Heness decided to start his own Gold Coast green painters business with the mission to provide better air quality for commercial and residential spaces.
He admitted, however, that it was going to be difficult to compete initially with mainstream paints and painters.
But he says, "It's a commercially viable and completely price-competitive alternative to mainstream paints and painting. Just as good in terms of coverage and durability, over 36,000 colours, at a similar price but without the nasty VOCs. There's no reason why people who care about the quality of the air they breathe would choose anything else."
Mr Green Stuff has launched a new website which includes the company's story, explains VOCs and has a product description for each painting product used on site.
