May 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Woodstock, CT – For the second consecutive year, PORON® Cushioning, a licensed trademark of Rogers Corporation, is a proud sponsor of the Law Enforcement Torch Run benefitting Special Olympics Connecticut.

As part of its sponsorship, PORON Cushioning will donate $1 to the Special Olympics CT* for every new “Like” it receives on its Facebook page www.facebook.com/poroncushioning from May 17 – 25, 2012.  This promotion coincides with PORON Cushioning’s partnership with the Reach the Beach Relay Massachusetts and as a result, Special Olympics CT will share funds raised from the event with Special Olympics MA.

With the explosion of social media over the years, the PORON Cushioning Team determined that social media – predominantly Facebook with its 800 million users – would be a great venue to raise additional awareness and funds for the Special Olympics.

“We are honored to support such a great organization that has been near and dear to Rogers employees over the years,” said Dave Sherman, New Business Development Manager, PORON Cushioning.  “The Special Olympics is an organization that has provided opportunities for thousands of people and we look forward to continuing our support for many years to come.”

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is the largest grass-roots fundraiser for the Special Olympics.  It is held in 48 nations, 12 Canadian Provinces and 50 states across the country.  It incorporates more than 85,000 law enforcement participants from all over the world who will have the honor of carrying the “Flame of Hope” to the Opening Ceremonies of local tournaments, or National Summer Games all while raising awareness and funds for the Special Olympics.  The LETR of Connecticut alone raised $520,000 last year enabling over 6,000 athletes to compete while providing the opportunity to help them gain confidence and a positive self-image.

“We are thrilled to partner with the PORON Cushioning Team to help us raise awareness of the Special Olympics and encourage community support,” said Lisa Carlone with the LETR, Connecticut.  “The Flame of Hope in Connecticut will cover over 530 miles running through 100 cities and towns from June 6-8, 2012.  Anyone interested in finding out if we’ll be running through their neighborhood or need information about how to support can visit www.soct.org.”

The mission of Special Olympics is “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community”.  To find out more information on how to support the Special Olympics in your area, visit www.specialolympics.org

* Donation to the Special Olympics through this promotion will be limited to the first 1,500 Likes for a maximum donation of $1,500
