Brain Research Foundation to Fund Research Looking for Clues to Diseases That Affect Childres

May 17, 2012 - PRLog -- CHICAGO, IL – (May 17, 2012) The Brain Research Foundation (BRF) today announced that its Associate Board will be funding Dr. David Freedman’s Fay/Frank Seed Grant project. “Dr. Freedman’s research will help guide the next generation of treatments for brain-related diseases and disorders in children,” states Terre Constantine, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Foundation. “An understanding of the brain mechanisms that underlie learning, memory and recognition, will put us closer to identifying viable treatments.”

Dr. Freedman’s work was first determined of high merit by the Brain Research Foundation’s Scientific Review Committee, a national group of well-respected neuroscientists that evaluates each grant proposal to determine the most promising new research projects in the field of neuroscience. The Committee selects those projects that will likely lead to extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health or other outside funding sources.

BRF’s Associate Board then selected Dr. Freedman’s work because of the potential impact it can have on our understanding of a number of brain diseases including autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit disorder and schizophrenia. The Associated Board is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of children with brain disorders and their families.

Established to help innovative neuroscience researchers gather the data required to validate their hypotheses, the BRF Seed Grants are a critical first step in understanding neurological disorders.
