GGRT is ready for Iowa
NEWTON, IA- (5-16-
This event will mark the fifth segment in the 15-race season for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. The event brings the drivers from the eastern series face to face with those from the west for a giant event which results in the best of the best making the grade for the feature race. In the past, the Golden Gate Racing Team has fared well in the Iowa event. Self and this veteran team are looking forward to returning to the competitive .875 mile oval that is home to some of the most eager fans on the tour and has seen many of today’s NASCAR stars in victory lane for the very first time.
“I’m excited to get back to Iowa and on the big track where I know we can shine as a team,” said Self. “I’ve had a lot of fun and learned a lot at Iowa in the last couple of years so I’m looking forward to applying that and bouncing back from our misfortune in Stockton.”
In 2012 , Self finished deep in the field at Iowa after a strong weekend in preliminary practices and qualifying. This Saturday the Park City Utah resident is looking for a strong run aboard the Rockwell Watches-Bay Bio Diesel number 21 Chevrolet that carries the support of Richard Childress Racing Driver Development. The Iowa event gives teams in the East and West to go up against one another to test their skills and talent and at the same time gain great exposure as the race will share the spotlight with the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
For Self and the Golden Gate Racing Team, the 2012 season thus far has shown the strength and determination this team that was founded over two decades ago brings to the table. It has been a series of highs and lows so far, none of which any fault of their own. In all of their events this season GGRT has pushed hard to get their way to the front. They are currently 10th in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West point standings entering this Saturday’s race at Iowa.
“This is one of the most competitive races in this series,” said Jimi Z, owner of the Golden Gate Racing Team. “This team is due to have some better luck on their side after Stockton. In every race this year we have been a contender and we’ve just had some bad luck before the checkered flag fell. These guys are great, it has to be our turn soon.”
The Golden Gate Racing Team/RCR Chevrolet carries the sponsorship of Richard Childress Racing Driver Development, Rockwell Watches , Pat O'Keefe's Bay Bio Diesel and the Golden Gate Meat Company. Additional associate sponsors that support them are the Richard Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma, RCR Street Performance, Hill Meat Company, Corte Madera Tow, Harraka Racing Equipment Sales, Foodcomm International, Signco, Praxair, JW Web Design and Sullivan Images Media Specialties.
