SunCarrier Omega at the Workshop on Smart Grid

May 17, 2012 - PRLog -- GANDHINAGAR – May 17, 2012 – SunCarrier Omega participated in the Workshop on Smart Grid, hosted by the Government of Gujarat (GOG), Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation (GETCO), PDPU, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Regional Task Force (RTF). The workshop was hosted by Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar, on 14-15 May 2012.

Distinguished speakers from the Government of Gujarat, the Asian Development Bank, GETCO, PDPU, New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, Japan, amongst others, shared their insights about the latest technologies in smart grid for transmission and distribution. The Government of Gujarat and Gujarat power sector shared the proposed smart grid development roadmap, projects, future plans and needs for investment in the state and about public and private partnership (PPP) through RTF in this area.. Subsequently, the private sector and knowledge institutions presented their proposals to solve the issues.

Gujarat has been at the forefront of developing renewable energy sources to bridge the energy divide. Having commissioned over 65% of India’s total solar power generation capacity in recent times, Gujarat realizes that its optimum utilization is important, and this too was one of the topics of discussion among participants at the workshop. With increasing focus on distributed generation and off-grid solar solutions, the need of a robust, efficient and low-maintenance energy storage solution was felt. Mukesh Bhatt, General Manager Sales, SunCarrier Omega, while speaking to the participants, shared details about Cellcube, the vanadium redox flow battery, an appropriate energy storage and management system, and the future of battery technology. “Energy storage technologies are no longer in the realm of academic research”, he said, “products like the Cellcube are commercially available products that have been very effectively deployed in creating sustainable habitats like the SunCarrier Omega Net-Zero Energy Building”. This project evinced quite a bit of interest on the sidelines of the workshop.
