RTR UK Watches The Avengers Smash $1bn Mark

Such was the hype surrounding the film that it hardly came as a surprise that it went straight to the top of the UK and American box office. However what followed next was much more surprising. After a $200m opening weekend in the USA it was followed by a $100m plus second weekend, a feat almost unheard of. In just 10 days the film had earned $373.1 million in the USA with, $630 million more worldwide.

A spokesperson for RTR UK believes that it is the relationship that cinema-goers had already made with the characters that has contributed to its success, “This is almost a super sequel, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America have already had their own individual films so fans have already got an interest in the characters. There was a worry that the plot would be convoluted and complicated but they’ve handled it incredibly well. As the figures suggest, people were impressed.”

The highest grossing film ever worldwide is Avatar at $2.78 billion dollars. Marvel’s The Avengers is already in 12 place leapfrogging all the Harry Potter films apart from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and it has only been open for 10 days.
