According to Dr. Spurrier, founder of BabyGearLab, the website aims to deliver an improved level of scientific testing and ratings to baby product reviews: “Our goal is to provide new and expectant parents with detailed insight on how baby products stack up to each other when compared side-by-side. Parents naturally want to provide the best for their baby, but it is difficult for a new parent to figure out what they’ll need and how well competing products will really perform. We put products through detailed side-by-side tests, both in the lab and in use, and score each product across a range of weighted metrics. We rank the products, explain why, and give awards to the best.”
BabyGearLab was inspired by Dr. Spurrier’s personal experience as a first-time mother. “In the final month of my pregnancy, I found myself overwhelmed with the number of decisions I had to make about baby products, and frustrated by the lack of credible side-by-side comparison information. As a Pediatrician, I was looking for a more scientific and comprehensive approach to baby product reviews that was up-to-date and compared competing products side-by-side. I never found it. So, after the birth of my second child, I decided to start BabyGearLab.”
