"We are always looking for great people to add to our team," says MPC's Human Resources Director, Jami Carson, SPHR. "Our experience with the Jobs for Veterans program to date has been outstanding and has produced fantastic candidates who are dedicated, skilled and were ready to dive in the first day of the job."
EAC's experienced counselors work with veterans who have returned from active duty in all military services to place them in positions that fit their skill set. The program offers veteran support activities and employment services including reintegration events, career assessment and counseling, job search strategy workshops and coaching to transfer military skills to civilian jobs. Over the past five years, the Jobs for Veterans program has helped over 1,500 veterans from every branch of the military find employment.
"We have two goals in mind: First, we want to help our recently separated veterans find employment where they can be successful; secondly, we want to help employers find a suitable match in their candidate search. We are committed to reducing the unemployment rate of these highly qualified candidates and shortening the job search, thereby making it a win-win for a veteran and the employer," says EAC's Career Counselor Tom Carroll.
Through the program, MPC has added three full-time employees and hopes to hire more this year. Jon Fisk, MPC's new Production Supervisor, joined the team through the program in March.
"I worked a civilian job before the military but it was for family, so getting back into the job hunt was a whole new world for me," say Fisk, who previously served as a weapons specialist in the military. "The Jobs for Veterans program helped make the transition from military work to civilian work much easier than I thought it would be. They made it work for me at my pace rather than pushing me out the door and expecting me to know everything."
Fisk says EAC went to great lengths to help him prepare for the workforce by having him take tests to determine his strengths and weaknesses, ultimately letting him know what area of work would be best for him.
"At first I was a little skeptical of the tests, but when I saw the results, I couldn't believe how correct they were. They helped me take the military jargon out of my resume and turn it into something that a civilian employer would understand. I would recommend this program to any veteran."
