In celebration of Oregon Wine Month, Rogue Wilderness Adventures, an award-winning Rogue River tour operator is announcing a new venture-- Southern Oregon Winery Tours--that celebrates Southern Oregon’s fascinating wine region, which is actually the oldest wine growing region in the state. Few people know that Southern Oregon boasts more than 70 varietals growing in more than 170 microclimates, making it an ideal travel destination for true oenophiles.

Southern Oregon Winery Tours (SOWT) introduces wine lovers and outdoor adventurers alike to the lure of Southern Oregon’s intimate wine scene and spectacular natural landscapes. These new tours highlight the high-quality, authentic wineries in this special region of Oregon created by winemakers that demonstrate a true passion for winemaking.

SOWT is offering a number of new tours including a daily wine tour that offers visits to several featured vineyards (selected from the region’s 127 vineyards) for a professional guided wine tasting and tour, a vineyard picnic lunch, barrel room tours, wine pairing recommendations, and a glimpse of real working wineries in the area. Daily tours depart year-round from the Ashland Springs Hotel and at Harry and David Country Village Store in Medford, Oregon. Cost $125 per person.

From May through September, evening float trips on the Rogue River will also be offered. These “Twilight Wine Float On The Rogue River” trips treat guests to a scenic late afternoon river rafting float trip through stunning Hellgate Canyon on the historic Rogue River. Guests relax while enjoying the wildlife and scenery along the river and top the evening off with a light meal and guided wine tastings. Trip lasts from 5-9 pm and costs $110 per person.

SOWT is also offering new “Wiking” trips on the historic Rogue River Trail. On these trips, hiking enthusiasts experience 4 days of exploration on the stunning and historic Rogue River Trail with hikes that average about 10 miles per day. Evenings are spent in wilderness lodges that are located along the trail. SOWT’s resident sommelier accompanies hikers on the adventure leading guests through guided wine tastings and pairings of Southern Oregon wines each evening as they relax at each cozy lodge, enjoying hearty, homemade cuisine. Trip departures: September 15-18th, 2012; September 30-October 3, 2012; May 15-18, 2013; May 30-June 2, 2013; September 15-18, 2013; September 30- October 3, 2013. Cost: $1150 per person plus fees.
