What Every Caregiver Should Know about Alzheimer’s Disease
Blair House Senior Living offers advice on managing Alzheimer’s and dementia

MACON, GA. (May 16, 2012) - Blair House Senior Living, an assisted living facility with a state-of-the-art memory care unit, will bring in a team of experts to discuss the concerns of caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

“Dementia is one of the world’s fastest growing diseases, with 24 million people currently diagnosed and that number expected to jump to 84 million by 2040,” says Jean Govoni, executive director of Blair House Senior Living. “Dementia is growing so quickly and we believe it’s important to do our part to provide community caregivers with guidance on how to best care for their loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer’s. It’s a devastating and widely misunderstood disease, and that makes it all that much more important to provide community members with an opportunity to truly understand what their loved one is experiencing.”

According to Dr. Lorne S. Label from the Brain Longevity Center, about 13 percent of Americans over the age of 65 have Alzheimer's and half of those over the age of 85 will develop Alzheimer's or dementia as they continue to age.

“It’s easy for family members and other caregivers to become frustrated at the increased level of care needed for loved ones with dementia,” says Govoni. “With a better understanding of the disease itself, caregivers are more prepared to deal with the emotional, financial and physical stress that they and their loved ones are experiencing.”

Caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia in need of assistance can contact Blair House Senior Living for additional information.  Blair House Senior Living will also host an interactive event called “What Every Caregiver Should Know about Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia” on May 16, 2012 at 6 p.m. at 684 Arlington Place Macon, Ga. 31201.
