May 16, 2012 - PRLog -- The manufacturing industry witnessed its slowest rate of growth in four months over April according to the purchasing managers’ index (PMI), as companies across the UK reported fewer orders across Asia, Europe and the US.

Foreign demand for British goods has deteriorated for the past two months, with export rates falling at their fastest pace since 2009. The sharp decline in exports caused total new order books to shrink for the first time in five months.

Reaction within the industry over growth fears and employment for the rest of 2012 however remain rather optimistic, at least that’s what manufacturing and engineering recruitment specialists Core Talent believe.

David Nesbitt, Director at Core Talent commented on the latest figures as well as his confident predictions for rest of the year ahead suggesting, “Although last month saw the UK economy slip back into recession and demand from abroad is slipping according to the latest PMI results, it should be pointed out that the sector did expand for a fifth straight month, cost pressures are easing and the industry is still recruiting.”

Core Talent Recruitment also hope the upcoming events such as the jubilee and Olympics will kick-start UK manufacturing trade as it opens its doors to the rest of the world.

Nesbitt continued, “This year also includes a number of opportunities for employment growth in the manufacturing, purchasing and engineering sectors as the whole country prepares for a summer of celebrations and events, first being the Queens Diamond Jubilee next month which has already created a boost in manufacturing including the 600 beacons which will be lit for the occasion. The project has boosted a small firm’s workforce by 30% and similar projects across the country are having a similar effect.”

However the company are aware that without the ability for the UK to tap into the growing global demand it will potentially create an uncertainty about whether the industry can regain significant momentum behind recovery.
