May 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Now in their 12th year, Best Companies are the name behind The Sunday Times 'Best Companies to Work For' lists which are increasingly well-recognised and are compiled based on research from the largest survey of its kind.

For Accreditation 2012, over 246,298 employees were surveyed from 1082 organisations across the Private & Not for Profit Sectors.

Informa’s Group HR Director Emma Blaney explained: “Each year Best Companies celebrates the cream of UK workplaces. This survey is judged by the most discerning of people – employees themselves – and is a mark of employee engagement and the benefits this brings.

“How well a company scores is based entirely on how people rate their employer based on eight key factors; Leadership, My Manager, Personal Growth, Wellbeing, My Team, Giving Something Back, My Company and Fair Deal,” said Emma. “We are thrilled with the rating, which demonstrates Informa’s commitment to our people and is testament to their commitment to the company in turn. The feedback we receive from the process will enable us to improve our aim to be one of the most outstanding businesses in the UK.”

Accreditation

The Accreditation scheme, developed by Best Companies, is based on a star rating system where one star is first class, two stars are outstanding, and three stars are extraordinary. Organisational successes have been defined using data from the 2012 Best Companies to Work For survey which involved surveying over 246,000 employees from 1082 companies.

The Best Companies survey is designed to measure how employees feel about eight influential aspects of working life, that together form a comprehensive view of Workplace Engagement.

Each organisation that enters and is eligible for Best Companies Accreditation receives a Best Companies Index score (BCI) which is used to determine their Star Status. The BCI is a normalised scale that can be used to compare across all organisations, with set achievement levels needed to obtain One, Two, or Three Star Accreditation or Ones to Watch Status.

The Best Companies Index score

The Best Companies Index score is calculated using the eight factor model of Workplace Engagement. The eight factors that make up the model are: My Manager, Leadership, My Company, Personal Growth, My Team, Fair Deal Giving Something Back, and Wellbeing.
