May 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Fisher House is a new £4 million facility being built for families of service personnel who receive treatment at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Simon Seaton-Smith and Chris Aird from Couch Perry & Wilkes (CPW), who both live in Sutton Coldfield, will join other like-minded cycling enthusiasts and military personnel on May 20 at HMS Victory, in Portsmouth, before taking the ferry to Le Havre. From there, they will cycle to Dunkirk, taking in all the main First and Second World War battlefields and memorials.

They were inspired to take part in the challenging ride after CPW, which has its UK headquarters in Birmingham, was appointed building services consulting engineers for the Fisher House project, with Glenn Howells Architects, Arcadis PM/QS and CCE Civils and Structure.

Work on the accommodation, which will have 18 bedrooms, started in April and should open in February next year.

Fisher House will be paid for by a number of charities, including Help for Heroes and the US-based Fisher House Foundation, and will provide a “home from home” environment for military personnel and their families.

“This is a very special project because it will enable relatives to stay within walking distance of where military personnel are being treated.  We are keen to do what we can to support and help raise much-needed funds for this facility,” explained CPW Director Simon, who aims to raise at least £10,000 from the ride.

“Chris and I are keen cyclists and we thought it would be a great challenge to undertake.”

“It will be very challenging because of the distances involved, and we are looking forward to taking part,” said Chris. “We’ve set our target for £10,000, but hope we can raise even more for this incredible cause.”
