RES set for Bumber Return to Broken Hill

The Resources and Energy Symposium brings together some of Australia’s foremost experts on mining and  economics including NSW Minister for Resources and Energy, Chris Hartcher, former Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson, CEO of Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers, Dr Claire Curtis-Thomas and CBA Chief Economist, Michael Blythe.
According to Kerry Stevenson, CEO of Symposium, this year’s event will focus on ways Australia can remain globally competitive.

“The event will see the industry come together to discuss the challenges and opportunities that are set to face not only the Australian resources industries but Australia as a whole,” said Stevenson. “As a nation we cannot be seen to be complacent as we now live and deal in a global economy and one that, if we don’t continue to look at staying globally competitive, we can look at being globally irrelevant.”

The event is not only for those within the resources and energy sectors either.

“The Resources and Energy Symposium also looks at the outlook and opportunities for those who invest in the industry,” said Stevenson.

More than 30 resource companies will present their investment opportunities over the 2.5-day event. There will be workshops, panel discussions and over 15 keynote speeches covering a range of topics including:

•   The first era of the Coal Gas Industry, (Sir Eric Neal AC, former CEO of Boral and Former Governor of South Australia)
•   Australia’s bust, it will be our fault (John Roskam, Executive Director, Institute of Public Affairs)
•   Innovation in mining the new frontier (John McGaugh, Head of Innovation, Rio Tinto)
 All profits from the Resources and Energy Symposium will go directly into scholarship programmes that provide funds to educate students wishing to undertake tertiary education within the resources field.  

The Resources and Energy Symposium will be held from 20-23 May at the Civic Centre, Broken Hill and kicks off with the Great Australian Outback golf challenge - a unique golfing challenge open to all levels of golfing prowess. For those not keen to dodge the emus and kangaroos there will be the opening BBQ later in the day as an informal kick off to the Symposium. A great way to meet fellow investors and industry members.
