According to latest statistics (Feb, 2012) released by the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC), natural rubber output in 2011 from its members reached 10.13 million tons, increasing by 6.7%, higher than the previous 6.4% of 2010. Among them, Vietnam’s natural rubber production increased the most significant. Specifically, Vietnam’s natural rubber production in 2011 was 811,600 tons, increasing by 8% in comparison with 2010. In recent years, this country’s natural rubber production has been showing a gradually increasing trend.
At present, ANRPC has 11 members (Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam), accounted for about 92% of the global production of natural rubber (2010 statistics from ANRPC website)
Vietnam now is the fourth largest country in term of natural rubber export production.
VIETNAM LATEX BEDDING INDUSTRY – A CLOSER APPROACH!
With its advantage as owning large and on-the-spot material source, Vietnam is seeing a fastest growth in latex bedding industry. On the other hands, Vietnamese consumers always love to have eco-friendly bedding products appeared in their bedroom. These features promote its latex bedding industry to boom.
There are dozens of latex manufacturers available in this country. Among them, people often think of 3 favorite brands at first.
Kymdan is a long-standing and famous brand in Vietnam for latex mattress. This company was established since 1954 and the founder – Mr. Nguyen Van Dan - is totally Vietnamese, who self-studied and applied French technology of rubber processing into his factory. It was his great effort and contribution to this industry. Mr. Nguyen Van Dan was also gained 2 important patents, one in latex mattress making and another with secret of absorbing body’s heat from latex mattress. Unfortunately, “now” Kymdan applies a strict confidentiality policy to maintain secrecy regarding their unique technological procedure for natural latex mattresses. There is so much wonder that if this is a good policy from a famous company in this modern and well-integrated business world?
Vạn Thành, established in 1982, has been proud to be a largest company in Vietnam’s bedding industry in term of scale until now - it has a giant factory with 8.5 hectare in Ho Chi Minh City. At first days, they was only specialized in other rubber products such as rubber shoes, rubber rope…and just began to produce latex mattress since 90s of the last century.
LIEN A is the brand with long history (before 1975). They owns an over 45-year-experience team of engineers for latex mattress industry. Lien A is the company with most significant development rate for this industry. They have many “firsts”:
1. First and unique company ranked as one of “20 Top Exporting Brand” by The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
2. First company in Vietnam has latex mattress passed Durability Test and Evaluation, performed by LGA Furniture Laboratory in German.
3. First company in Vietnam joined ISPA (International Sleep Products Association)
4. First company investing in a largest factory of 20ha.
Lien A’s products has been well-trusted in Asia, EU and most recent, USA market. In Vietnam, this is the brand most consumers love to.
The strength of this industry comes from best - selected material source and Vietnamese tradition of hard-working, innovation and keeping quality of the products.
As a fact, rubber plantation area in Vietnam is almost run by State-owned corporations. This country owns many giant corporations such as Vietnam Rubber Group, Danang Rubber Joint Stock Company (DRC), National Group 15 etc. Their rubber output has dominated the market. The output is controlled by National Standard (TCVN 3769: 2004) and International Standards. That is the reason why latex material source here is very reliable and of high quality. Strict control of latex quality combined with suitable environment conditions make Vietnam latex milk pure and fresh – some features make it different from others.
Another point, Vietnam latex factories are often small to medium-scaled. Vietnam manufacturers & exporters have decided their different way to approach & expand international market not basing on the mass production but focusing on quality control.
VIETNAM LATEX BEDDING INDUSTRY: SPEEDING UP AND GROWING!
In 2012, Vietnamese government is projected to expand its plantation area to 800,000 hectares, guaranteeing enough supply of 1.2 million tons for domestic and international demand (estimated figure for 2,015).
With this momentum, Vietnam is actually a rising destination for many investors in natural rubber processing industry, Mr. Le Ngoc Trung (Ministry of Industry and Trade) commented.
According to an analysis carried by Ph.D. Suarni Sumormo – Director of Economic and Transaction Department (Malaysian Rubber Board), rubber price rocketed recently due to many effects: rubber demand that exceeded supply, exchange rate, price fluctuation on forward market, increase in petrol price, decreased rubber production in some countries.
In which, Vietnam is still expanding its rubber plantation and production. This is very optimistic sign for a bright future of latex mattress industry in Vietnam.
