“The Owner” was written, produced and directed via an unprecedented collaboration between 25 filmmakers from 13 countries - including South Africa, China, Lebanon, the U.S. and several South American and European countries. This month, the filmmakers will premiere the film in their own neighborhoods on the same night. The Detroit screening will take place at Emagine Theater in Novi at 7:00pm. Tickets are now on sale.
The film follows an ordinary backpack on an extraordinary journey around the world. The bag is passed from character to character, country to country, on its way back to its owner—a man whose identity is the central mystery of the film.
“We are very excited to show this film to the world,” said Marty Shea, co-founder of CollabFeature and one of the film’s 25 directors. “It brings together a variety of cultures, languages, and film styles into a singular narrative plot.” The script was written entirely via an Internet collaboration - most of the filmmakers have never met in person.
Shea and project co-creator Ian Bonner, are both Detroit-area natives and residents as well as Michigan State University graduates. They started CollabFeature after several years of partnering on some successful short films and working on dozens of local productions.
CollabFeature and “The Owner” have already received a lot of attention from international press, including CNN, the Hindustan Times and the Huffington Post, as well as a growing online fanbase. It is set to break the Guiness™ World Record for the most number of directors. Australia sales agent ScreenLaunch has signed on to represent the film and has taken it to the Cannes Market.
