Great Britain Women's Volleyball players to take part in major contact lens conference

May 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Members of the GB Women’s Volleyball team will participate in a special ‘Vision in Elite Sport’ session at a major contact lens conference being held in Birmingham next week.

The 36th British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) Clinical Conference and Exhibition takes place at the ICC Birmingham, UK, from 24-27 May 2012. Themed ‘Competing for Excellence’, the conference will stage its first-ever session on ‘Contact Lenses and Sport’ on the morning of Saturday 26 May.

Leading UK sports vision specialists, Geraint Griffiths, Gavin Rebello, Kristine Dalton and Dr Michel Guillon, will discuss the contact lens assessment and vision correction of athletes between 09:00-10:00 in the main lecture theatre of the ICC*.

From 10:00 to 10:50, the four athletes will take part in ‘Vision in Elite Sport’, showing the relationship between athletes’ coaching and conditioning staff and the input of sports vision practitioners.

The session will include a live demonstration of the players’ volleyball skills and an insight into what it takes to be picked to represent your country in the Games.

Speakers in this elite session include Simon Fanning, a sports science graduate with a particular interest in volleyball coaching, alongside Gavin Rebello, Martin Lloyd and Dr Michel Guillon who are sports vision optometrists working with a number of elite athletes in the run up to the Games.

Gavin Rebello said: “The volleyball players have been great to work with; we have organised a not-to-be missed session for BCLA conference delegates where there will be no controversy over who gets tickets.”
