PRLog - May 15, 2012 - TAMPA, Fla. -- Cary, NC - Cary, North Carolina based Wake Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) as a treatment option for its patients. PAL is performed using a special cannula that produces tiny, rapid vibrations to break up fat cells as they are suctioned out of the body. The rapidly oscillating hand piece allows a more accurate and easier removal of fatty tissue with less overall mechanical trauma. This equates to increased safety, reduced procedure time, greater precision, less bruising and swelling and a more rapid recovery.
In a study led by the Department of Dermatology at Tulane University Health Sciences Center, researchers found that 30 percent more fat was removed with PAL than with manual liposuction, while bruising and recovery time were significantly reduced.
PAL is very effective in treating areas that are notoriously difficult to sculpt, including the inner thighs, upper and lower back, and dense tissue in male patients including the breast,” said William T. Stoeckel, MD, plastic surgeon and owner of Wake Plastic Surgery.
“Jay,” a Wake Plastic Surgery PAL patient who had liposuction treatment to his abdomen and flanks, said, “I resumed reasonable activities within a day and a half. I took it fairly easy immediately following the surgery. I was a little sore when I would lay or sit down for a few days, almost like I overdid a stomach workout at the gym.”
Because the PAL takes less time to perform than manual liposuction, patients are less susceptible to complications and safety risks. Patients report many long-term benefits of fat removal with liposuction. In a research study evaluating the results of over 400 power-assisted liposuction patients, it was found that the incidence of complications was less than half the rate in a similar group who underwent ultrasound-assisted liposuction.
An anonymous female patient who recently had removal of fat deposits in her thighs and lower back with the PAL said, “Lipo was a piece of cake and I had very minimal bruising.”
