A Week Of Pageantry and Celebration of Tibetan Culture

PRLog (Press Release) - May 27, 2012 - Events in June will begin with a Tibetan Cultural Pageant preview at University Mall June 9th at 7 PM.  The monks will share the arts and culture of Tibet to the people of the Piedmont area in North Carolina. Event organizer Eve Barkley comments, “This is a unique opportunity to be able to experience Tibetan culture and religion that is practiced in the monasteries, in exile, in Southern India.  The monastery has been sending tour groups to the United States since 1996.”  

On June 10th the Arts Center in Carrboro will present the Tibetan Cultural Pageant at 7 PM.  Doors will open at 5:30 PM and Tibetan Handcrafts will be available for sale until 6:30 PM.  Crafts are made by members of the Tibetan Refugee community living in Southern India.  All proceeds from sales and donations go directly to Drepung Gomang Monastery.

On June 11th the monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery will have their opening ceremony to create the Medicine Buddha Sacred Sand Mandala.  The Medicine Buddha is the Buddha of Healing, the manifestation of the healing energy of all enlightened beings.  They will be working at Unity Center of Peace located at 8800 Seawell School Road in Chapel Hill.  Unity Center of Peace will be open to the public from 10am to 6:30 pm June 11th to June 15th to allow the public to watch the monks construct this very special mandala.  The closing ceremony will June 16th at 2pm and there will be plenty of parking.
