Touted by local event organizer Jackie Maurer as the biggest slumber party in Scotts Valley, the event is designed to raise awareness about a serious disease with a fun and community-centered event. Beginning at 10am on Saturday, DJ Laurie Roberts will kick off the event opening ceremonies with cancer survivors and family members of those who have lost their battle releasing doves in honor and remembrance. This year, each lap will have its own theme, such as Punk Rock Lap, Mustache Lap, and Clown Lap (coulrophobics beware). Former “Survivor”
Teams will be conducting onsite fundraising by selling food, beverages, crafts and other items at their campsites. A bounce house and kids’ camp with arts and crafts, games and more is sure to keep the little ones happy. Live bands will motivate and entertain participants as they make their way around the track throughout the duration of the event. According to event organizer Jackie Maurer, 28 teams have signed up to participate, and will continue now through event day. A total of $41,000 has been raised so far. Participation is free and open to the public.
The Relay will begin at 10am on Saturday and continue through 10am on Sunday. Skypark is at 361 Kings Village Road, Scotts Valley.
